Following a couple of strong races at the Algarve and Sachsenring, we now move onto the FIA GT1 round at Silverstone for the RAC Tourist Trophy race. I am seriously searching forward to this weekend as it truly is my initial dwelling race since 2006 when I was driving for Team Modena within the Aston Martin DBR9.

I have fond memories of Silverstone. It’s where I had my very first Formula 3 championship win in 1989, followed by my very first test inside the Brabham Formula 1 vehicle, which not surprisingly was a special moment. I have noticed the circuit take on distinct shapes over the years and this new track layout will be something different once again.

In 2005 I finished second in the Tourist Trophy alongside Darren Turner within the works Aston Martin DBR9. We lost by just 1.9 seconds and it was a race we must have won. I got pole from the sister vehicle of Peter Kox, setting a qualifying record, and I led the very first stint of the race. Darren got in and we had been looking good until he had a rear tyre issue and we got passed for the lead.

It was an awesome one-two result for the team and which is what we are aiming for this year inside the Sumo Power GT Nissan GTR team, but with car 21 in front!

My teammate, Jamie Campbell-Walter, won last year’s race and I know he is keen to repeat that feat again, so the will to win this weekend is truly powerful. It would surely mean a good deal for me to take my first FIA GT1 win on household soil.

Our focus is even stronger than ever now that our race-engineering problems have been sorted and we have the identical engineer for the rest of the year. Without doubt, that will make automobile 21 stronger and it gives me even a lot more confidence for the races ahead.

Every little thing is actually beginning to come together for the team as recent results have shown. Immediately after our double third-place podium in Portugal, we’re ready to go to the next level and win.

Silverstone will suit the Nissan GT-R far better than the tight and twisty track of the last round at Sachsenring, so I anticipate all four Nissans to be proper up there. The JRM Racing automobile 22 of Peter Dumbreck and Richard Westbrook will also be keen to win on household ground, so it'll make for an fascinating weekend.

It'll be the first international race for the huge new Wing and pit complex and all the teams are keen to see and function out of it. Silverstone as well as the BRDC have pushed the boat out on this one, at Bernie's request, but it are going to be some thing unique for future generations to come.

For the majority of drivers, including myself, it will be the very first time around the 3.666-mile Arena circuit so I’m definitely seeking forward to finding to grips with the new section which consists of a series of 3 corners: Village, The Loop and Aintree. I’m told Abbey, the fast correct hander past the pits, is very challenging in a GT to ensure that should be fun.

As it truly is also the house race for the Sumo Power GT team, it is going to be a busy week with promotional commitments. Jamie and I are performing a talk to the Silverstone marshals on Thursday night and it's going to be fantastic to have plenty of Nissan guests and team sponsors attending the race weekend.

I will also have a great deal of buddies and family members also as my son, Sam’s, karting sponsors coming along. It'll be fairly special to have that level of support and we’ll be aiming to put on our best show but and take the dwelling spoils.
