The American Chemical Society ideas to introduce two new online-only, peer-reviewed journals that will publish investigation linked to biological devices and artificial biology, also to polymer science. The journals will publish their 1st total issues in January 2012.

ACS Synthetic Biology will cover methods to understanding how cells, tissues, and organisms are organized and purpose in natural and artificial programs, as well as the application of synthetic biology in engineering these systems. The journal is specifically serious about scientific studies to the design and style, programming, and optimization of biological techniques; computational systems to aid the design and style of synthetic techniques; and integrative applied ways to knowledge disease and metabolic rate.
“The applications of artificial biology impact all locations of biotechnology, this includes agriculture, chemical and fuel synthesis, products, and pharmaceuticals,” notes Christopher A. Voigt, editor-in-chief of ACS Artificial Biology.
Voigt not too long ago joined the department of biological engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technological innovation being an associate professor. He reports the reprogramming of bacterial organisms to complete coordinated, complex duties for pharmaceutical and industrial apps.
The society’s other new journal, ACS Macro Letters, will report significant improvements in spots of soft-matter science where polymers play a sizeable role, like nanotechnology, self-assembly, supramolecular chemistry, biomaterials, power, and renewable/sustainable elements.
ACS Macro Letters will complement the society’s Macromolecules journal, that will subsequently focus on total content and reviews in polymer science.
“Whether it can be in sustainable plastics, biomedical materials, renewable electricity, or abundant clean h2o, polymers have a very crucial purpose to play,” notes Timothy P. Lodge, editor-in-chief of Macromolecules and ACS Macro Letters. “The time is ripe” for the new journal, that can publish findings within just four to six weeks of submission.
Lodge is a professor from the departments of chemistry and of chemical engineering and supplies science in the University of Minnesota. He scientific tests polymer devices that self-assemble to kind nanostructures.
Stuart J. Rowan will serve as deputy editor to the new journal. He is a professor in the division of macromolecular science and engineering at Case Western Reserve University. He holds joint appointments in both the biomedical engineering and chemistry departments
