Actor William Shatner received the Honorary Headbanger Award at the third annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards, which had been held on April 20th in Los Angeles. Former Golden Gods host comedian Brian Posehn and Anthrax's Scott Ian presented the award to Shatner. Prior to presenting the award, the duo bantered back and forth about Shatner's metalness by picking apart many items on his resume. They said that although he saved Spock, he also played TJ Hooker. Inside the end, they agreed that it is Captain Kirk, for God's sake and he is so metal he craps iron ore. He even recorded a forthcoming difficult rock album where he covers Black Sabbath's iconic 'Iron Man.' If that's not metal, what exactly is?

Dressed in black, Shatner was gracious (and decidedly metal) in his acceptance speech: "F---ing gnarly! I accept the award and realizing the spirit in which it truly is given, I appreciate the energy, the musicality, and also the talent of you headbangers. F---ing gnarly."

F---ing gnarly indeed.

Revered for his role as Captain James T. Kirk on "Star Trek", Shatner was on hand to accept his award, an honor Revolver magazine bestows each year to a person who has created their name outside of the metal world but still embodies its spirit.

"Short of receiving an Emmy for my superb voice, the Honorary Headbanger Award will be the next very best thing. Praise be you will not hear me sing," said Shatner.

Los Angeles-based Cleopatra Records has inked William Shatner to a worldwide recording deal for a space-themed concept album entitled "Searching For Main Tom" (formerly "Seeking Significant Tom"), to be released later this year.

Comprised of 19 "interpretations" of classic intergalactic rock anthems, the release functions guest appearances by Ritchie Blackmore (RAINBOW, DEEP PURPLE), Ian Paice (DEEP PURPLE), Zakk Wylde (BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, OZZY OSBOURNE), Carmine Appice (VANILLA FUDGE, ROD STEWART, OZZY OSBOURNE), Mike Inez (ALICE IN CHAINS) and Michael Schenker (MSG, UFO, SCORPIONS).

Of Wylde, Shatner previously stated, "He's great! I'm energized." Wylde was thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Shatner and added, "He's super cool, we had an amazing time working together."
