Kate Winslet, who drifted to fame in "Titanic," escaped a nasty fire early Monday morning at Richard Branson's Caribbean property.

The Virgin Group boss mentioned about 20 men and women, which includes Winslet and her young children, had been staying inside the eight-bedroom Good Residence on Necker, his private isle inside the British Virgin Islands.

Branson mentioned he was staying in yet another property around 100 yards away with his wife, Joan, and son Sam, 25.

He mentioned the fire broke out around four a.m. throughout a wind and lightning storm, and Sam Branson managed to assist evacuate Winslet along with other guests from the home.

Richard Branson said the guests, including his 90-year-old mother and his daughter Holly, 29, managed to get out safely.

Winslet's present companion is British model Louis Dowler. She is separated from second husband Sam Mendes, father of her son, Joe, 7.

Winslet's spokeswoman, Sara Keene, confirmed the actress was unharmed.

Branson mentioned the home was "completely destroyed" along with the fire was not entirely out Monday.

"My office was based within the house and I have lost thousands of photographs, which is pretty sad," Branson mentioned.

Virgin said the trigger of the fire was still becoming investigated but lightning was the most likely culprit.
