New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan has a busy schedule on his very first complete day back from Rome where he was elevated to cardinal.

Dolan began his day early Wednesday at a Roman Catholic church in Manhattan where he distributed bags of food to the hungry.

Later inside the day he will participate in Ash Wednesday celebrations, leading a Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral.

Ash Wednesday marks the initial day of Lent.

Dolan was amongst 22 Catholic churchmen who were elevated to cardinal Saturday by Pope Benedict XVI ((the 16th).

Cardinals are the pope's top rated advisers. They're the elite group of churchmen who will sooner or later elect Benedict's successor.

An Ohio church is offering a drive-thru Ash Wednesday blessing for parishioners who may be pressed for time.

The Rev. Patricia Anderson Cook of Mt. Healthy United Methodist Church in suburban Cincinnati plans to supply the service for people today of all faiths and services beginning around five p.m.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning with the Christian season of Lent, which concludes following 40 days with the celebration of Easter.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports hat the service is aimed at busy men and women and also people that may be intimidated walking into a church.

Along with ashes, Cook will supply a church brochure and a Lenten booklet.

The church is also offering a additional standard Ash Wednesday service inside at 7 p.m.
